Three things before you open it

There is no rate column, deliberately. Every figure is a death count and the person-years it was counted against. Compute deaths / person_years × 100000, and pool by summing both, never by averaging rates.

An empty cell is not a zero. Age bands are assembled only where a country’s published bands tile the target exactly. Where they do not, the cell is empty rather than estimated. A zero means zero.

Check pool_eligible before you pool. Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia and the former Federal Republic of Germany overlap their successor states. Summing the file without filtering counts the same children twice.
