Terms of Use
1. Acceptance of These Terms
By accessing or using pediatricsuicides.ca (the "Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
2. Informational Purposes Only/No Medical Advice
The Site provides general information about health topics, including mental health and suicide prevention, for educational purposes only. Nothing on the Site constitutes medical, psychiatric, psychological, or other professional health advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The information on the Site is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified health professional. You should never disregard professional medical advice, or delay seeking it, because of something you have read on the Site.
3. No Professional Relationship
Your use of the Site does not create a physician-patient, therapist-client, or any other professional relationship between you and any operator, author, or contributor of this Site.
4. Emergencies and Crisis Situations
The Site is not an emergency or crisis service and is not monitored in real time. If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency, or are having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, call or text 9-8-8 (Suicide Crisis Helpline), contact your local emergency services (911), or go to your nearest emergency department.
5. Accuracy of Information; No Warranties
We make reasonable efforts to provide accurate and current information, but we make no representations or warranties of any kind, express or implied, regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability, or timeliness of any content on the Site. Health information changes rapidly, and content may become outdated. The Site and all content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind.
6. Third-Party Content and Links
The Site may contain links to third-party websites, resources, or services. These are provided for convenience only. We do not endorse and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party site, and your use of them is at your own risk.
7. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, pediatricsuicides.ca, Dr. Tyler Black, ASARI Holdings Inc., and any operator, owner, employee, author, or contributor to the Site will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Site or its content, including any decisions made or actions taken in reliance on information found on the Site. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In such jurisdictions, liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 Ownership and Scope
All content on the Site, including text, graphics, and design, is owned by ASARI Holdings Inc. or its licensors, and contributors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The licences in this Section 8 apply only to original content authored by contributors to the Site, and are divided between the Dataset (Section 8.2) and Site Content (Section 8.3). They do not extend to (a) third-party materials appearing on the Site, which remain subject to their owners' terms, or (b) the pediatricsuicides.ca name, logos, or trademarks, which may not be used without our prior written permission.
8.2 The Dataset (CC BY 4.0)
"Dataset" means the factual mortality data compiled and published on the Site and in its associated data files, comprising: death counts; population exposure (person-years); the jurisdiction, year, age-band and sex fields to which they are assigned; statistics derived from them, including rates, confidence intervals, rate ratios and fitted trends; the case-definition, data-quality and completeness flags applied to them; the source registry, including source names, publishing bodies, table or dataset identifiers, retrieval dates and URLs; and the accompanying codebook and data dictionary. The Dataset is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0), available at creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0. You may copy, redistribute and adapt the Dataset for any purpose, including commercially, provided you give appropriate credit as described in Section 8.5, provide a link to the licence, and indicate if changes were made. This licence is irrevocable, and no other provision of these Terms restricts or adds conditions to the rights it grants. The underlying records reported by national statistical offices, coronial services and international bodies are facts, in which we claim no copyright. This licence covers our compilation, coding, and presentation of them. Users obtaining data directly from an original source remain responsible for that source's terms.
8.3 Non-Commercial Use (CC BY-NC 4.0)
"Site Content" means all original content on the Site other than the Dataset, including narrative text, country commentary, methodological and interpretive notes, graphics, and design. Site Content is licensed to the public under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC 4.0). You may copy, share, and adapt the content for personal, academic, research, educational, and other non-commercial purposes, provided you give appropriate credit as described in Section 8.5, indicate if changes were made, and do not suggest that ASARI Holdings inc., pediatricsuicides.ca, or Dr. Tyler Black endorses you or your use. The full licence text is available at creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0.
8.4 Commercial and Media Use
For news reporting, commentary, and other commercial uses, we grant a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to reproduce, quote, and adapt Site Content, on the following conditions:
(a) you provide attribution as described in Section 8.5;
(b) you do not alter content in a way that misrepresents its substance or the guidance it contains;
(c) any republication of substantive health or crisis-related content retains the applicable health disclaimers and crisis-resource information (or equivalent);
(d) you do not state or imply endorsement by ASARI Holdings Inc or its licensors, Dr. Tyler Black, pediatricsuicides.ca.
8.4.1. Where the Dataset is republished, we ask — as a request, and not as a condition of the CC BY 4.0 licence — that crisis resource information and the applicable health disclaimers be retained, or replaced with local equivalents. Nothing in this paragraph limits or qualifies the rights granted by CC BY 4.0.
To be clear, no share-alike obligation applies, you may license your derivative works on your own terms. This Section 8.4 licence is granted under these Terms, not under a Creative Commons licence, and we may revise its conditions prospectively under Section 10.
8.5 Attribution. Attribution must identify pediatricsuicides.ca and/or ASARI Holdings Inc. and/or Dr. Tyler Black as the source, include a link to the original page (or the Site URL where a link is not practicable), and identify any modifications. For the Dataset, attribution should take the form: Black, T.R. (2026). pediatricsuicides.ca pediatric suicide mortality dataset (Version 1.0.0) [Data set].Licensed under CC BY 4.0.
8.6 Reservation of Rights. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. For uses outside Sections 8.2, 8.3 and 8.4, contact dr.tylerblack@gmail.com.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Site for any unlawful purpose, to interfere with its operation, or to attempt to gain unauthorized access to any systems or data connected to the Site.
10. Changes to the Site and These Terms
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Site (or any part of it) and may update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia for any dispute arising out of these Terms or your use of the Site.
