pediatricsuicides.ca is operated by ASARI Holdings, Inc., based in British Columbia, Canada.
Questions, requests, or complaints about privacy can be sent to dr.tylerblack@gmail.com. Dr. Tyler Black is responsible for privacy compliance for this site.
What this site is
This site provides information about pediatric and adolescent suicide, including data, research summaries, and downloadable materials. It does not provide clinical care, crisis support, or individual medical advice, and no relationship of any kind is created by using it.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911. In Canada, the Suicide Crisis Helpline can be reached by calling or texting 988, 24 hours a day, in English and French.
The short version
- The site collects a small amount of technical and usage information, automatically, to understand how pages are used and which materials are downloaded.
- The site does not ask for your name, and does not use accounts, logins, advertising, or third-party advertising trackers.
- If you choose to send feedback, the site collects whatever you type into that form, and nothing more.
- All data is stored on servers located in Canada.
- Nothing collected here is sold, rented, or shared for marketing.

Information collected automatically
When you visit a page, the site records:
- which pages you viewed, and when
- which files you downloaded
- the site or search engine that referred you, if any — its name only, never the address it pointed at, so a search term never reaches this site
- whether the window you are reading in is phone-sized or wider
That is the whole list. There is no fifth thing. The record of a page being read carries no name for you, no number standing in for a name, and no address, so those records cannot be joined into a trail and no visit can be matched to any other.
About IP addresses. Your IP address is transmitted to the server as a necessary part of how the internet works. It is truncated to remove the final octet before the web server writes anything down, it appears only in the server's own security log, and that log is kept for a short period and used only to keep the site running and to protect it against abuse. The usage information listed above is recorded separately, and holds no address at all — not a truncated one, not a coded one.
A note on the word "anonymous." No usage data collected from a website is perfectly anonymous. Enough technical details combined together can sometimes point at a single person. The site is configured to strip or truncate identifying fields, and no attempt is made to identify individual visitors or to link their activity across visits. But a claim of absolute anonymity would be overstating it, so this policy does not make one.
Form fields. Nothing you type is captured. The counter sends one message when a page loads, and one more if you click a link to a data file, and it reads no field on the page in either case: not the contents, not the length, not whether you began typing at all.
Information you choose to give
The site has a feedback form. It collects only what you put into it.
You are not required to give your name, email address, or any other identifying information. If you want a reply, you will need to give some way of reaching you, and that is your choice.
Please do not send confidential health information about yourself or another person, and please do not send anything about a specific child's death that you would not want held in a private inbox. Information sent through an open web form should be treated as personal correspondence rather than as a secure clinical channel.
Limits on what feedback can do. The feedback form is not monitored continuously. Messages may not be read for days. It is not a route to clinical care, a crisis service, or a way to report a person at risk. If someone is at risk right now, contact 911 or 988.
Feedback submissions may be disclosed where disclosure is required or permitted by law, including where there is a serious and imminent risk to someone's safety, or in response to a legal order.
Information not collected
This site does not:
- require or offer accounts, logins, or profiles
- serve advertising, or embed advertising or social media trackers
- use third-party analytics services that build cross-site profiles of visitors
- ask for health information, and does not knowingly retain health information that is sent unprompted
- use automated decision-making or profiling of any kind
- sell, rent, trade, or license any information about visitors
Why this information is collected
Usage data is used only to:
- understand which pages and materials are actually being used, and improve them
- identify broken links and confusing navigation
- report aggregate readership (for example, total downloads of a document) in academic or professional contexts
- maintain the security and availability of the site
Feedback is used only to read, consider, and where appropriate respond to what you sent.
Cookies and similar technology
Cookieless: This site does not set cookies and does not use browser local storage, session storage, or device fingerprinting. Nothing is stored on your device by this site.
Consent and your choices
Analytics. Analytics are limited to aggregate measurement and run without a consent prompt. See the opt-out options below.
Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. This site honours the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal and the Do Not Track (DNT) header. If your browser sends either, usage analytics are disabled for your visit.
Blocking analytics yourself. Standard content blockers and privacy-focused browsers will block this site's analytics. There is one file, /assets/analytics.js, and it asks for one address, /analytics, both named in plain words rather than disguised, so that a blocker can find them. Nothing on the site depends on either, and blocking them will not degrade your experience.
Feedback. Sending feedback is entirely voluntary. You can read everything on this site without submitting anything.
Where data is stored
Server logs and usage statistics are stored on servers physically located in Canada, operated by Webhosting canada. No analytics company is involved at any point: the counting is done by this site's own software, from a file on that same server, and the figures are read on Dr. Black's own computer in British Columbia. That data is not transferred outside Canada, and no service provider holding it is subject to a foreign order compelling its disclosure, to the extent that can be assured by contract and by choice of provider.
Feedback is the exception, and it leaves Canada. Anything you send through the feedback form is converted to an email and delivered to a Gmail account operated by Google LLC, a company based in the United States. From that point it sits on Google's servers, under Google's terms, and within reach of United States legal process. The Canadian assurance above does not cover it.
That is the reason for the caution earlier on this page: treat the feedback form as ordinary correspondence rather than as a secure channel, and send nothing through it you would not want held in an email inbox in the United States.

Aggregated statistics that contain no identifying fields may be kept indefinitely for research and reporting.
Young people
This site is about children and adolescents, and young people are likely to read it.
The site is designed so that a young person can read everything on it without giving up any information. No account is needed, no identifying information is requested, and the analytics collected are the minimum needed to know which pages are being used.
If you are under 19 and you have sent feedback and want it deleted, write to dr.tylerblack@gmail.com and it will be deleted, with no questions asked and no need to explain why.
Security
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are in place, including encryption in transit (HTTPS across the whole site), encryption at rest, restricted access to any stored feedback, and regular review of what is being collected. No system is perfectly secure, and no absolute guarantee is offered.
If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada will be notified as required by law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what information is held about you, to get a copy of it, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to withdraw consent.
Because this site holds very little that could be linked to an individual, an access request may return nothing at all. Where feedback you sent can be located, it can be provided to you or deleted on request.

This policy may change as the site changes or as Canadian privacy law changes. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised effective date, and the previous version will remain available at pediatricsuicides.ca/privacy/archive.

This site aims to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and, for visitors in those jurisdictions, Quebec's Law 25 and the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
